As years go by, it is evidently observed that the regional hills & hillocks are slowly disappearing from our environment. Unsustainable mining and quarrying activities are the major reason for the present situation.
Few decades ago, the sand used for construction mainly came from the riverbeds unlike recent times where huge hills and mountains are bombed, ground into coarse and fine particles and are used as an alternative for the silt obtained from riverbeds.
We are deceiving ourselves if we believe that riverbeds are being conserved. Because we are doing it at the cost of losing the mountains, that is the source of fine sand brought down to the rivers as an effect of rainfall.
It is analogous to saving the child by putting the mother at stake. If this prevails, infrastructure development would become a major issue. Hence let’s join hands to SAVE THE MOUNTAINS , for a better tomorrow.
